What prompted you to develop a vineyard? After setting out hundreds of acres for other people, I thought if you can’t beat them, join them. Plus the thrill of writing all those cheques in the first two years!

Favourite food and wine: Roast lamb and vegetables with a local Shiraz.

Family details: Three teenage children, Emma, Kelly and Meg.

Occupation: Licensed surveyor specialising in hydrographic and boundary surveying and to a lesser extent now, vineyard set outs.

Where do you see the wine industry progressing in the next five years? With the proliferation of young vineyards coming on stream, the lower yields at present may save considerable pain for smaller producers until the marketers weave their magic overseas. Only those growers serious about quality will receive premium prices for their grapes.
