Name: Bernie & Tina Dwyer
Vineyard variety and trellis type:
Shiraz clone 1654 on modified Scott Henry with cordons
at 1.2 and 1.5m.
Year vineyard developed:
Planted September ’98. Designed by a bloke up in High St, Willunga! We had
a few problems with hares and corellas (until I got my eye in) and we managed to
fill 95% of both wires by the end of the season.
What prompted you to develop a vineyard?
Before vines we ran a few steers in our front paddock, we had two gates (I
hate gates) and vines don’t get out if you leave them open!
What do you think of the Scott Henry trellis system?
The Scott Henry system was chosen as we are a small vineyard and prepared to
do things a little more intense and Adam pointed out it would help with
potential vigour problems.
Favourite food and wine?
Roast beef (our own of course!) from a camp oven, with
Kay Bros Block 6 Shiraz followed by real pavlova and Scarpantoni’s Fiora
Family details:
Tina and I have four kids, Kellie Jo is 10, Emma
is 6, Max and Tom are 5,
but they reckon 5+5=10!
Favourite footballer:
Robert Harvey
Occupation:
Proprietors of Wood ‘n’ Logs Pergola & Landscape Supplies at Old
Noarlunga and just in case you like discount, we give Trade Price to all fellow
growers, just mention it to our sales team on 8386 2442. (How’s that for a
plug!)
Where do you see the wine industry progressing
in the next five years?
Over the next 5 years we will see who is serious about
quality and those who aren’t will probably get out. (Might be a few bargains!)
